Where: Settings
After selecting frameworks, configure which features are enabled and how they behave.
:::caution Configure these early — schools are waiting on you The Settings section is visible to School Admins as well as District Admins, and schools inherit the district's values before layering their own. Until you've set yours, schools can't meaningfully set theirs.
The goal is to have these settled before evaluators start creating observations and student growth goals, so everyone in the district is working under the same rules all year. Three matter most:
- Workflow mode — Simple vs. Formal
- Revised Principal Goal Achievement rubric descriptors — if you evaluate principals
- Report section and evidence inclusion settings
The third is the easiest to overlook. Settle the report layout before reports start being archived, so the ones you archive across the year are all uniform. :::
Modules
Modules represent the major areas of functionality in eVAL. Most correspond to the activities in the left sidebar menu (Observations, Student Growth, Summative Evaluation, etc.). Each module groups together the settings that control how that area behaves.
Most modules are always on — they define core parts of the evaluation process. A few are optional and can be enabled or disabled by the District Admin.

:::tip School Override For optional modules, the DA can decide whether to allow School Admins to override the district default at their school. :::

Important Settings
Beyond enabling modules, configure how they behave. The settings below are the ones worth deciding before the year gets underway; Modules and Settings documents every available setting in full, including Summative requirements, Focused evaluation carry-forward limits, and assignment delegation.
Workflow Mode (Simple vs Formal)
| Mode | How It Works |
|---|---|
| Simple | The evaluator submits and the report is immediately archived and locked. The evaluatee is notified and can view it, but isn't part of the final submission. |
| Formal | After submission, the evaluatee reviews and acknowledges the report within eVAL before it's locked, creating a documented sign-off. |

Scoring Options

Critical Attributes (Danielson Framework Only)
For districts using the Danielson Framework for Teaching:

Report Settings
Configure the title and layout of archived reports. Each report type (Summative, Observation, Mid-Year, Self-Assessment, Student Growth) can be customized with a custom title and which sections to include.
Where: Evaluation Setup > Report Settings
:::tip Configure Early Set up report configuration at the beginning of the year before any reports are generated. This ensures all reports throughout the year have a consistent format. :::
