Principal Guide
As a principal, you play two roles in eVAL at the same time, and you switch between them using Work Areas:
- Evaluator — you evaluate the teachers at your school (and, if you're a Head Principal, usually the assistant principals too).
- Evaluatee — you have your own annual evaluation, conducted by a District Principal Evaluator (DPE).

What You Control vs. School & District
Most configuration is handled by your administrators — as a principal, what you control is mainly your own evaluator work:

Two Hats, Two Setups
Each role depends on its own setup being complete, and they're independent:
- You can start evaluating your teachers as soon as the Teacher framework is loaded and their evaluations are set up — even if your own evaluation isn't ready yet.
- Your own evaluation becomes available once the Principal framework is loaded and you've been assigned a DPE and a plan type.
If part of eVAL is showing as Pending, that's normal while setup is in progress — see Account Status & Access.
:::tip Head Principals If you're a Head Principal, you typically also evaluate the assistant principals at your school, in addition to your teachers — but that isn't a requirement. An assistant principal can instead be assigned a District Principal Evaluator (DPE), the same as any principal. Your own evaluation is conducted by a DPE. :::
