Packaging Evidence
An evidence package groups evidence items together and aligns them to specific rubric text. Packages are how you document the connection between your evidence and the evaluation rubric. Once packaged, items move from the Unpackaged tab to Packaged.
Why Package Evidence?
While unpackaged evidence shows that evidence exists for a rubric component, a package goes further:
- Groups related evidence — Combine multiple pieces that together support a claim
- Aligns to rubric text — Select the specific descriptor text your evidence demonstrates
- Supports scoring — Document why a particular performance level is supported
You don't have to package all evidence. Focus on packaging the evidence that most clearly supports performance level determinations.
The Rubric Strip
When you drill into a rubric component, the rubric strip shows the performance level descriptors side by side — the text defining what each level of practice looks like.
All Washington State evaluation frameworks use four performance levels:

Where packages already exist, the rubric text they align to appears highlighted — showing at a glance which parts of the rubric your evidence has addressed.
Critical Attributes (Danielson Only)
If your district uses the Danielson framework, Critical Attributes can be shown beneath the standard descriptors using the Show Critical Attributes toggle. They can be selected for evidence packages, unless your district has set them as reference-only.
Critical Attributes are specific to the Danielson framework. Other frameworks (Marzano, CEL 5D+) don't include them.
Creating a Package
- Select evidence items in the Unpackaged tab — one or more items that together support a claim.
- Select rubric text — one or more paragraphs from a performance level descriptor. They don't have to be adjacent; pick whichever paragraphs your evidence actually demonstrates.
- Create the package. It appears under the Packaged tab.
What a Package Shows
- Source — Where the package was created
- Rubric Statement — The performance level and selected rubric text
- Evidence Items — Each item in the package with its type, date, and content
Managing Packages

Effects on Evidence Items
An evidence item that's in a package can't be deleted until it's removed from every package containing it.
Including Packages in Reports
If your district's Evidence Policy is set to Curate, packages don't appear in the final report until you mark them for inclusion — and the same applies to unpackaged evidence items. See Including Evidence in the Report.
